A reminder that our homes are enough.

Spring is just around the corner Down Under. It's that time of the year again when a whole lot of us are probably in the same 'prep for summer' mode with the festive hosting months looming ahead.

The change in season has got me thinking about our mad dash to get our home renovation done and dusted, or at least to the point where we won't be spending our summer worrying about what needs to get finished....And making sure that our house looks good enough to host guests and BBQs.

Which then got me thinking about how it's always around this time of year when the sneaky insecurities about our homes start to rear their judgy heads.

Oh, no the garden is a mess.

What are we going to do about those mouldy windows?!

The house needs a paint job.

Is it just me, or is the floor uneven?

We need to get the cracks in the driveway fixed.

We need new bed linen, new homewares, new dinnerware...Just new everything.

Sound familiar? That's pretty much my internal monologue right now.

The funny thing is, our family and friends aren't visiting us to check out the state of our homes.

It's more than likely that they couldn't care less about whether or not you've dressed the guest bed in the trendiest quilt cover or replaced your dinnerware with new ones. They're visiting to spend time with us.

Oftentimes, our rush to make everything in our homes look and feel perfect for our guests is, yes, to help them feel more comfortable but also to (secretly) gain their approval.

There I said it!

External approval.

So, if you're like me and in the beginning stages of 'get guest ready' panic, hit pause. Breathe and remember: our homes are enough. We are enough.

And the most important thing about hosting is the loving act of spending time with our guests.

Yes, okay, pretty cutlery, dinnerware, homeware and bedding all make for a pleasing sensory experience, but ultimately, it's the laughter and memories that count.
