New Zealand Homeware Brands Worth Obsessing Over and Inviting Into Your Home

Living room filled with furniture, armchair, sofa, a gallery wall, vintage home decor.

I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve only cottoned onto New Zealand homeware brands in the last year or so. When I think ‘homewares,’ my mind automatically drifts to Adairs, Fenton & Fenton, Coco Republic (all three are Australian brands), or West Elm and Pottery Barn (both US brands). I’ve likely had blinkers on all this time because, from what I’ve discovered, stylish, quality homeware brands are thriving in New Zealand and have been for generations.

The ‘NZ Aesthetic’

If you live in New Zealand, you’re likely familiar with our relaxed lifestyle and preference for understated trends. As shoppers, we tend to avoid bold colours and patterns, opting instead for neutral tones and a minimalist aesthetic. Unsurprisingly, our homegrown brands tend to stick to classic styles. Seasonal collections are almost always inspired by our connection to the sea and nature, focusing on quality, longevity and natural materials. I can deeply appreciate these principles as a customer who values items that stand the test of time (and trends).

Without further ado, here are my 5 favourite New Zealand homeware brands totally worth obsessing over and inviting into your home (full disclaimer - this post is not sponsored and is my own take on brands I’ve come to know and love):

  1. Città

Città is synonymous with New Zealand's taste and sensibility. Their product collections capture the laidback essence of New Zealand living with a commitment to refined and contemporary design with a nod to mid-century. I’m a big fan of their textiles, particularly their cushions and bath towels.

2. Weave

Weave was established by Warkwick Fabric, one of New Zealand’s leading fabric houses. Some of my favorite throws come from Weave; I appreciate the quality of their textiles and their timeless designs. They often utilize muted, earthy, and neutral color palettes in their soft furnishing designs, making them easy to style in any space.

3. Home Lab

Home Lab designs all its products in-house in New Zealand. I’m a little obsessed with their French Flax Linen bedding collection (you can feel the quality the moment you slip under the covers), and I will be 100% collecting more in the future. I like how they blend current trends into more timeless pieces and their commitment to using quality materials.

4. Noa Blanket Co.

Noa Blanket Co. is a brand that gives me literal chills. Everything from its values, beginnings, and mission - all of which are deeply rooted in Māori culture and history is stitched into the design of their blankets and storytelling. Each blanket in their collection is designed and made in New Zealand from 100% New Zealand wool, and crafted as heirlooms to be passed down from generation to generation.

5. Hawthorne Collections

Hawthorne Collections has been around for over thirty years. It is one of New Zealand’s leading suppliers of homeware, textiles and furniture to local businesses in New Zealand and Australia. While you can’t purchase products from their collection directly (they supply to businesses only), chances are you have bought or come across their products in brick-and-mortar and online stores. Their designs are the epitome of antipodean living - textural, contemporary, coastal and relaxed.
