Studio Diary: Exterior Paint Colour Glow Up

The studio exterior paint glow-up is one of my favourite reno transformations so far. It’s come a long way since we first started turning it into a creative workspace.

After choosing ‘Perplex’ (a moody coastal blue) for our entire living, kitchen, and dining area, I selected ‘Kindle’ for my studio exterior. This colour will also be used on the main house’s exterior walls, roof, and deck balustrades.

Seriously, I cannot get enough of Aalto Paint. I love the quality of the finish and the DEPTH of colour in their products. Also, they’re a New Zealand brand, which is a major tick in my books. Love supporting homegrown!

Kindle is a soft pink that looks more pink in cloudy skies and morning sunlight, and much paler in bright sunlight. It has a coastal feel and, much to the Husbabe’s relief, isn’t TOO pink.

Aluminium/metal surfaces are tricky to paint, and I knew that if I did it myself, I’d mess it up. Cue the team at better house painters. They knew exactly how to treat the surface and did a brilliant job with the application and finish. To think that I was initially going to go whole hog with a paint brush and a prayer 🤣 – then they come in with their professional equipment and get sorted in no time! Check out the before and after photos in the jump below.
